Dear Voters,
You'll be able to vote for 3 state Supreme Court Justices in the next election and I'm a candidate for a second term. This website will give you plenty of information about me.
Like many Ohioans, I don't come from a wealthy or well-connected background. My grandfather and great-grandfather were coalminers, my dad was a Toledo carpenter. I was first in my family to go to college. And after marriage and law school I worked as a lawyer and then became the only person ever elected as judge at every court level--municipal, common pleas, court of appeals and supreme court. This wide common-sense experience over 25 years is something no other Ohio judge has.
I've handled everything from traffic matters to death penalty cases, jury trials to constitutional appeals. I've also earned a master of judicial studies degree to be a better judge.
My record shows I'm impartial and fair to all sides. I believe that the Supreme Court is expected to interpret and apply law to cases rather than create social policy, which is the job of the legislature. I think that respecting the court's limited role keeps laws stable and predictable, which helps in these economic times as we compete for prosperity.
I respectfully ask for your trust and your vote for my re-election. In return, I pledge to uphold the Constitution and laws of Ohio and to continue giving you my best efforts every day.
